Below is a collection of music videos in the same genre or like the artist of the song I have chosen for my music video. These can be used for inspiration and to gain ideas to attract my target audience.
Tame Impala
These videos above are from Tame Impala, who are most popular out a selection of artists like Melody's Echo Chamber. In their videos a similar theme of colours can be seen - consisting of blues oranges and reds, and a retro style shown. Lip-syncing is also featured.
Beach House
Beach house music videos are a little different their colour schemes consist more of blue hues and the videos also have aspects of concept as well as lip-syncing.
Melody's Echo Chamber
Melody's Echo Chamber is the band that the song from my music video has come from, the music video can give me direct suggestions for my own video for attracting my target audience. In these videos there is a similarities through the colours - being blue, green, orange, pink. The first video is psychedelic and the shots seem hazy compared to the third video where the shots are clear. The shot types also suggest a relationship between the viewer and the singer as they are close up shots. Although the videos are slightly different the movement of Melody the lead singer is the same as she uses relaxed movements and with limited or no choreography, the colours also remain the same.
Pond
These videos are largely concept with aspects of performance, it has a psychedelic daze to it along with more weirder aspects. The colours are muted blues and greens along with retro yellows and reds. The shots are medium close ups and close ups with some medium long shots, however these are canted, giving it an edge.
In these videos different effects are used such as a kaleidoscope effect this frames the band members. The videos are mainly performance based, the colours are similar to the other bands and the shots consist of medium close ups and long shots so that the audience focus on the band. In the second video shots are superimposed over each other to create confusing images which relates to the psychedelic genre well.
Mild High Club
The second video shown looks to be filmed on video which gives it a retro look and feel, this mutes the colours. The video follows a narrative where new characters are introduced. The first video also superimposes certain elements on the same shot or different ones such as a a singing face on a playing band member, this fits in with the genre well. The colours used are mainly red and green with muted blues.
Homeshake
The first video is a concept video, it consists of people dancing, the shot types basically remains the same being a medium long shot however the camera zooms out to show them with each new shot. It doesn't fully follow a psychedelic look however the fact is was filmed in a more obscure place makes it more interesting. The second video is more random consisting of a collection of unorganised shots however with a theme of youths in the country in north America. The colours are also muted, including blues and yellows.
Moodoid
The first video is concept and performance, it shows close up shots of the bands faces and the medium shots show random illustrations, and items that resemble food. The colour scheme is mainly blue. The second video follows a very similar lay out in which medium shots of the band are featured in and around shots of related images in this case it is relating to East asian culture. The shots in the second video all have a pink tinge to them.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra
The first video fits in with the psychedelic genre as it is heavily edited to look in a certain hallucinogenic way, the colours are vivid and consist mainly of purple, blue, and orange. There is also a large use of geometric shapes and random objects. The second video is animated and the colours are pastel pinks, blues, and yellows and contain a slight gradient.
Although diverse there are a few common themes that run through these videos such as the colour scheme consisting of vivid purples, blues, and oranges, however the colour correction or filter that has been used look to be striving for the video tape look where a haze is seen over the shot, and finally the type of video varies with each.
From this it can be suggested that I use the common themes in my video to appeal to my target audience thus I shall include vivid colours including hues of blue, orange, and purple. I am already also planning to edit it in a different unique way to fit in with the genre, however after researching videos from the same genre I am looking to perhaps include a filter to put over my video to mute the shots slightly.
This is an excellent post Sophie showing real engagement with the genre - can't wait to see what you come up with in your video!!
